An organic agriculture internship

When Marika from Georgia indicated that one of her big wishes was to do an internship on a farm in the Netherlands, Yvette started reaching out to her agricultural contacts. As a result, Marika arrived last week in the Netherlands and she is now learning and working at Twiskorganic, a organic fruit farm run by Gaia and Maaike, young Dutch women entrepreneurs.

Their farm has a good collaboration with Warmonderhof, the only training institute for biodynamic agriculture in Europe, so we are sure that Marika will learn a lot. She stays at the farm with Gaia and her wonderful and hospitable family.

Next to increasing her experience and knowledge at the institute, we also introduced her to some Dutch experts on pest management. One of the main challenges on Marika’s hazelnut farm in Georgia is the regional pest called ‘Brown marmorated stink bug’. She is determined to find a solution to conquer this bug. Although the experts in the Netherlands do not have a ready-made solution, they certainly help her a step ahead.
